UFC 126: Silva v Belfort – My predictions
It’s going to be a cracker!
UFC 126 showcases 3 bouts with the headline being the reigning Middleweight and pound-for-pound king, Anderson “The Spider” Silva, versus Victor “The Phenom” Belfort.
There should be some fireworks as both fighters have knockout power and can explode into action to overwhelm opponents with a flurry of punches and kicks as in Silva’s case.
I see Anderson working from the outside, picking off Belfort, and being weary of lunging in to be exposed to a quick counter and coup de grâce, as experienced by so many other fighters, most recently with Matt “The Law” Lindland and Rich “The Ace” Franklin.
So if Silva can nullify Belfort’s quick hands, I see him winning by decision or even stopping Belfort in the later rounds. If not, then it could be all over by the second with Belfort being crowned the new Middleweight king.
Another standup fest of keen interest is that of Jonny “Bones” Jones v “Ryan “Darth” Bader. Two up-and-coming, hungry Light Heavyweights with strong amateur wrestling backgrounds.
I like Jones in this one. He’s got more “tricks” but needs to be careful not to be caught when trying to pull something off like a spinning elbow or leg sweep. And his far superior reach, at about 84.5 inch (215 cm), should keep Bader at arm’s length – literally!
So I predict Silva should retain his belt and Jones should have too much of everything for Bader.
